Al Hughes plays 6&12 string guitar and harmonica, but it’s his voice which is often singled out as the keystone of his sound. Described by one critic as sounding as if it had been aged in oak casks, it has a haunting smoky quality which is capable of conveying a huge variety of moods, from gentle and wistful, to raucous and raging.
Always looking to expand his horizons, Al has played clubs, concerts, and festivals all over the UK and Europe.
Bottleneck Serenade – Available Now
Al Hughes releases his new album in January 2016.
As the title suggests, it focuses on his abilities as a slide guitar player, and highlights the varied moods and textures this technique can create.
From gentle instrumentals to raucous, in your face, electric blues, and using a variety of acoustic and electric guitars, the album features both original songs, and Al’s take on an eclectic mix of material from Big Boy Crudup’s Mean Old Frisco, to J S Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring.
Al’s previous albums have been very well received by both Blues audiences, and the blues press, and Bottleneck Serenade promises to build on his growing reputation.
It will also answer the question Al is asked by prospective cd buyers all over the UK;
“which album has the most slide?”
